From Jingdezhen to Your Table: The Story Behind Every Piece

In a quiet town in Jiangxi, China, at four o’clock in the morning, the kilns glow with a soft orange light. This is where Zhu Jinze, a young artisan from a family of ceramic makers, begins his day. His father and grandfather worked in the same town, shaping clay with their hands, turning it into porcelain treasures. As a boy, Zhu watched them work, fascinated by the rhythm of the wheel and the warmth of the kiln.

But as mass production took over, handmade porcelain nearly disappeared. Zhu left for the city, chasing a more stable job. Yet he couldn’t forget his father’s words: “True porcelain carries not just form, but warmth and soul.”
Three years ago, he returned to Jingdezhen. Using his father’s old kiln, he began making small batches of porcelain by hand—throwing, shaping, glazing, and painting each piece himself. He decided not to compete with cheap souvenirs, but to focus on authenticity and artistry.
Zhu opened a small online shop dedicated to U.S. customers. Each item comes with an English story card explaining who made it and how. His first batch sold out quickly in Boston, Los Angeles, and New York.

One customer from Chicago wrote:
“When I drink my coffee, I can feel the warmth of the clay and the story behind it. This isn’t just porcelain—it’s a cultural connection.”
Today, Zhu’s shop has grown steadily. He invests part of his earnings in training younger apprentices, ensuring that Jingdezhen’s centuries-old craftsmanship lives on.
